Parents and Guardians,
As technology continues to be an essential part of our children's daily lives, it’s more important than ever to ensure they are using it in a way that’s safe, kind, and responsible. At Century Elementary, we are committed to teaching our students how to become thoughtful digital citizens. Digital citizenship is about helping students use technology to learn, communicate, and connect while understanding the impact of their digital actions on themselves and others.
Our Digital Citizenship Vision focuses on guiding students to be safe, respectful, and responsible in both their online and offline lives. By fostering kindness, empathy, and mutual respect in the digital space, we aim to build future-ready role models who are prepared to thrive in our ever-evolving world.
We also believe that building these habits starts at home, which is why we are including a Family Media Agreement for you to review and consider discussing with your child. This agreement is a great way to start conversations about the appropriate use of digital devices, online safety, and balanced screen time. It covers essential topics such as:
- Staying safe by keeping personal information private
- Thinking before posting and communicating kindly online
- Finding balance between screen time and other activities
We encourage you to review this agreement together, ask questions, and share your own family values and expectations when it comes to media use. By reinforcing these practices both at school and at home, we can work together to ensure our students are equipped to navigate the digital world with confidence, respect, and responsibility.
Thank you for your support as we help our students become the best digital citizens they can be. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
