August 2017

 Dear Century Parents:

I hope all of you had a relaxing summer and are looking forward to school starting on Monday, August 21st.  For your convenience, some important information is included in this letter.

Clovis Unified’s theme this year is “Be the Difference.” Over the last 17 years, Century has built a strong tradition and culture, experiencing success in the classroom and in every co-curricular activity.  Our staff and students have truly made a difference and have helped our students with “Building Pride in Every Way.” This year, we will continue to be the cutting edge in education, inspiring our students to reach new limits. They are the future. We will challenge our kids to “Dream in Gold.” Our Hollywood-Oscar Award style theme symbolizes that although we have come a long way, we still have work to do to accomplish our dreams.  The Century Staff will set the stage for success and roll out the red carpet for our students to maximize their potential in mind, body, and spirit.

CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS: Student classroom assignments were be mailed out on August 9th to all families that have completed their on-line Annual Information Update on Parent Connect. Completion of this important information is mandatory. If you need assistance, please visit the CUSD website for instructions. Century will mail your student’s classroom information after you have completed on-line enrollment. The office staff returns on August 9th.

SCHOOL POLICY REGARDING STUDENT USE OF OFFICE PHONE: Students will not be able to use the office phone to call home unless it is an emergency.  Please make sure you make plans with your child as to how they are to go home after school.  All children must go home immediately after school unless they are involved in an after-school adult supervised program.  Students may not stay after school with their siblings who may be involved with co-curricular activities due to supervision issues. Please help us avoid any situation where a child is left Should you have any specific questions about bus transportation, please contact the CUSD Transportation Office at 327-9700.

FALL SPORTS: Information concerning football, cross country, and girls’ volleyball tryouts and practices will be sent home on Monday of the first week of school. Signed parent permission must be submitted to the coach. Student insurance information must be updated/confirmed during online Annual Information Update. These two documents must be submitted before any student will be allowed to attend tryouts. Football only will start practices on the first day of school.

DRESS CODE: Clovis Unified School District’s Dress Code will be in effect with the first day of school. I know that many families are shopping for new school clothes, so here are a couple of things to remember: 1) shorts/skirts/dresses are to be no shorter than 5 inches above the top of the knee and not higher than mid-thigh, 2) shorts are to be hemmed (no cut-offs or frayed edges), 3) shoulder straps must be 2 inches wide, 4) footwear must have a fastened strap behind the heel, and 5) only Buchanan Area hats will be allowed to be worn by Buchanan Area students (this is a new policy in effect at all Buchanan Area schools). If you are new to the school district or otherwise have questions about the dress code, please review the dress code policy in our Century Student/Parent Handbook.

We’re going to have a great year,

 Brion Warren
